Why walk when I can drive?

Walking is an eco-friendly way to interact with nature, with minimal impact on the environment. The idea is to see without being seen, and as such, not to alter the behaviour of any animals encountered along the way. You’ll leave the roads behind and get off the beaten track.

Out in the open your senses are on high alert, immersing you in the smells and sounds around you. It offers an intimate glimpse into a world of trees, tracks, insects, reptiles and other small animals. You can go where vehicles can’t and follow along ancient animal paths. You’ll hear fascinating alarm calls and get a real sense of adventure and exploration – and take in so much more detail than in a car.

A walking safari is not about ticking off the big 5 from a list, but rather about noticing the little things. Tracks, droppings, pods, seeds, animal calls and smells will take on new meaning and help you interpret the rugged, unspoilt landscape surrounding you.

Will I be safe?

Animals associate humans with danger and will move away if approached. Experienced guides, armed in the event of real peril, will use their senses and knowledge of animal tracks to get you as close as possible to wildlife while keeping everyone out of harm’s way. The emphasis is on a safe and respectful experience, where guests’ comfort and wellbeing are of paramount importance, and animals and environment are left behind unhindered.

Can everyone take part?

Unfortunately, these walking safaris exclude children younger than 12. And also persons older than 65 will need to present a doctor’s letter confirming fitness. Although the walk is not strenuous, it does last 4-5 hours, so participants should be in good health and able to withstand a fair amount physical exertion.

When and where?

Guided bush walks take place early morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your game ranger will drive you to one of the walking blocks in an open safari vehicle. After a safety briefing, you will then set off on foot. Times and details will be confirmed at the time of booking.
